Megan Goldin delivers a pulse-racing escape room story that entwines jealousy, greed and subterfuge. Goldin artfully creates a tense setting, rich with character back stories and hidden objectives. While I found a few explanations at the end to be a bit far fetched, it didn’t take away from the overall story. Vincent, Jules, Sylvie, and Sam are Wall Street hot shots that carry their greed and lust for money as a badge of honor. They lavish in high end clothing, cars and houses from the million dollar payouts. Alternately, they are rude, mean and utterly divisive to anyone or anything that stands in their way. They play office politics well and seem to know the ins and outs of surviving in a cut throat work environment. When a life is unexpectedly lost, it unravels so many lives. Readers follow Sara Hall, a kind-hearted, naive and ambitious newcomer to the team and her plight working with them but also follows the team as they are tasked with working together to beat an escape room. When they are placed into the confined space of an elevator, truths are revealed that can break their union and some will not escape unscathed. Justice is done. Truth is revealed.
