Wow. B.A. Paris does it again. If you liked Behind Closed Doors because of the twisty, diabolical nature of the characters then you will definitely fall into this somewhat creepy, diabolical missing persons story. So here’s a brief synopsis:
Finn meets Layla one day in London and falls madly in love with her. Complete infatuation. But Layla is charting her own course in her new life, running from her past hurt inflicted by an abusive father. Before long, Finn and Layla make their way back to each other and start a whirlwind romance that overtakes everything in Finn…until one day Layla disappears outside a rest stop.
(Got your attention too, right?)
This story is soooooo creepy at times. I literally could not put it down. Paris writes the characters with enough restraint not to give too many clues away so as a reader, you’re constantly questioning what could have happened to Layla? You follow the stream of consciousness of the characters and realize the crazy infatuation between them, you weed through the crazy thoughts and conjecture just as you would if you were going through the same issues and I loved this approach. I could fully understand what I noticed as the ramp up of curiosity to enthusiasm to then horror in Finn. The ending was like WHAT?!?!? It totally blows your mind. Definitely worth a read if you like domestic thrillers.
