I truly enjoyed this story by well-known Sanford. It follows the story of Virgil Flowers, a detective with wit, attitude and moxy. Called in to help a murder investigation gone sketchy, Flower uncovers a cultish church that he suspects of rampant child abuse and sex crimes. And boy, the story catapults from there! Sandford has a way of pulling you into the story with great character details. I could easily picture each character and surmise their actions. This story has some really detailed sex acts with children and highlights abuse in a way that makes the reader feel a bit icky. I think that was genius on the authors behalf because we felt what the characters felt…anger, disgust and hope that he would catch the culprits. Great fast paced mystery!
